Why do we celebrate International Dog Day?

Dogs have been companions to humans since ancient times. In fact, they were considered man's best friend until the 19th century. Today, dogs still play an important role in many people's lives.

There are over 800 million pet dogs worldwide, making them the most popular type of companion animals. Dogs provide love, comfort, protection, and loyalty to their owners.

Many children learn responsibility and compassion from caring for a dog. And, dogs help to reduce loneliness and depression among older adults.

Dogs have been a part of our lives since the beginning of time. They’ve been loyal companions, faithful friends, and loving family members.

In fact, according to the AKC, over 75% of Americans own at least one dog. And while they may not always get the attention they deserve, they are still loved and cared for deeply.

So, on August 1st, we want to show our appreciation for these amazing animals by celebrating them.
